SUBJECT: Introduction of electronic dental record system to dental hospitals/ dental clinics.

Work Completed

Main challenger was selecting a good topic. I discussed it with DR Jayasundara Bandara DDG (Dental services) and came up with several topics. Specialty board gave approval for this topic as my project (Introduction of electronic dental record system to dental hospitals/ dental clinics) and appointed two supervisors (Prof. Jayantha Werasinghe, Consultant in OMF, Oral surgery Unit, Dental Hospital, Peradeniya and Dr. Priyake Palipana, Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, IOH Maharagama).(23 May 2012)

Existing system was studied and different phase of the system was planned according to the Institution where research is being carried out (Institute of Oral Health Maharagama). (June 2012)

Project proposal was prepared and edited with help of supervisors. It was submitted to Specialty board for approval with the draft of EMR. (01 August 2012)

 

Work Scheduled

There are many things that remain to be done.

• Write a System Requirement Specification (SRS).
• Identify a good tool to fulfill requirement.
• Configure the tool to suite our setup.

Few question to be solved.

1. Is it needed to outsource the tool configuration, if it is difficult to configure the tool to suite our setup: find programmer to do that.
2. How it will be possible to do pilot phase at IOH Maharagama.
3. Who are the health workers, are going to involve in pilot implementation?
4. What is the hardware or infra-structure needed?
